http://www.MaritimeAccidentAttorney.com (877) 724 7800 This is not one of the more common company tricks following an offshore injury, but we do see it from time to time. If you have been hurt offshore, you need to look out for this. The company will tell you it is prepared to pay your maintenance payments, but first it needs you to sign a "wage replacement" document. Do not sign it. You are entitled to maintenance payments without signing anything, under the Jones Act law. The company wants you to sign this wage replacement document because it sneaks several provisions in it that hurt your case. Essentially, you are being tricked in to signing away valuable legal rights that you do not even know you have. At a minimum, talk to a qualified maritime injury lawyer before signing any such document.
