Injured on a cruise ship? Don't let the cruise line company trick you into giving away your legal rights.

Crewmembers on cruise ships and passengers on cruise ships have legal rights under federal Cruise ship accidents can cause serious injuries.law.  There is a big difference between the legal rights of cruise ship employees and passengers.  If you were injured on a cruise ship, you need to make absolutely sure that you know your legal rights before being tricked into signing them away.

What Law Covers Employees Injured On Cruise Ships?

Cruise ship employees are generally covered by the Jones Act.  The Jones Act is a federal law which protects masters and members of vessels in navigable waters.  Depending on the facts of your case, Jones Act cases can be very valuable, assuming you hire the right attorney for your case.

What Law Covers Passengers Injured On Cruise Ships

Passengers on cruise ships generally cannot bring legal claims under the Jones Act.  Instead, their claims are covered by "General Maritime Law."

Also, importantly, passengers on cruise lines have legal rights that are severely restricted by the trip tickets.  For example, you may have to bring your claim within a very short time frame or forever lose your legal rights.  In some instances, that period of time can be as short as four months from the date of your injury.  Also, you may have to bring your legal claims in a particular court.

You need to carefully review your ticket / boarding pass, which will set forth in detail the procedures for bringing legal claims.

How Much Is A Cruise Ship Injury Case Worth?

The fair settlement amount for a cruise ship injury will depend on a variety of factors.  Some of those factors include whether you were a passenger or an employee of the cruise ship, the nature of your injuries, the cost of medical treatment, whether the cruise ship employees were at fault for your injury, and whether your injury will prevent you from working or require follow-up medical treatment.

Do I Need A Cruise Ship Attorney For My Case

Yes.  It's as simple as that.

Let me tell you a quick story.  A few years ago, I was approached by a nice lady who was severely injured on a cruise line after suffering a major cruise ship fall injury.  She was going to require multiple surgeries and was unable to work.  She initially hired a lawyer she knew who specialized in writing contracts for businesses.  That lawyer agreed to take her case, and negotiated with the cruise ship company for seven months, without success.

After seven months, this nice lady was referred to me.  Problem was, the lawyer she hired had never worked on a cruise ship injury case before, and he didn't know that she had to file her legal case within six months.  There was nothing I could do.  She had no case, and recovered no money at all from the cruise ship company, even though the company's negligence had caused her severe injuries and devastating financial losses.
