The Justice Department is preparing to file criminal charges against BP employees for the April 20, 2010 Deepwater Horizon explosion that killed 11 workers and triggered the Gulf oil spill.
The Wall Street Journal’s on-line edition reports that prosecutors are focused on at least one supervisor and several Houston-based engineers for giving regulators false information about risks to the well during drilling.
Cameron, maker of the failed blow-out preventer, settled with BP earlier this month. Anadarko and Weatherford International are two other companies connected with the rig or its equipment that have settled with BP.
Platform owner Transocean and rig services provider Halliburton have not settled with BP.
