Tug accident in Chicago canal

Posted on Aug 01, 2011

The Coast Guard received a distress call in the early morning of July 28 from a tugboat after an accident in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.

Six crewmembers safely evacuated the tugboat Dale White after it struck a submerged object while it was passing near the Hannah Marine Corporation Wharf and Barge in Lemont, said a Coast Guard spokesman. The tug was hauling an empty barge.

Three other vessels assisted in holding the tug against a wall while water was being discharged from it.

No injuries were reported.
