Tow Boat Accident Claims the Life of Young Boy

Posted on Oct 24, 2010

A boating accident involving two vessels claims the life of a 13-year-old boy. The incident took place at approximately 10:00 AM on Sunday morning, October 17, 2010, near the James River Bridge.

According to reports, a 13-year-old boy and his father were on a fishing trip onboard a 17-foot bass boat when a Sea Tow vessel collided with them about 50 feet north of the James River Bridge. The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The boy’s father and the pilot of the tow vessel, who was ejected into the water, were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center where they were treated for injuries sustained in the boating accident. Their injuries were described as minor.

“It’s sad anytime there’s an accident and someone gets killed; it hurts,” said Coast Guard spokesperson Scott McBride.

The fatal boating accident is still under investigation. It was unclear as to who was at fault and what may have caused the two water vessels to collide.

This is a terrible tragedy and our thoughts and condolences go out to everyone who has been affected by the accident. We also would like to wish both victims a speedy recovery.
