A Florida boating accident took the lives of three people on Memorial Day in 2010. The sentence for the man held responsible has been revealed as probation, a simple misdemeanor, and a $339 fine.
According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, 43-year-old Stephen Valle could have been sentenced to up to half a year in jail for careless operation of a vessel - but not more than that - thanks to his role in the crash that killed Cyril Holley, his 19-year-old daughter, and her unborn child. They all died when Valle's large boat seemingly jumped over and hit their smaller vessel.
The FL Attorney's Office decided to charge Valle with only a misdemeanor after a long review. Florida Official Wildlife Conservation Commission officers supposedly carefully examined the crash scene. But the Florida Attorney's Office decided not to press for a more serious charge, such as manslaughter.
