Search continues for missing cruise ship passenger

Posted on May 04, 2011

A Coast Guard air search was to resume Wednesday for a 65-year-old woman who hasn't been accounted for on a cruise ship in the Pacific, the Associated Press reported.

The passenger, name unreleased, did not turn up for a Customs check 1 p.m. Tuesday in San Diego when the Celebrity Millennium docked there, a Coast Guard spokesperson said.

An HC-130 and helicopter began searching a 175 mile long area between San Diego and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which was the previous port of call. The woman was seen aboard the vessel during this leg of the cruise which began in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl and is bound for Vancouver, British Columbia.

A patrol boat was also tracing the ship's route.

According to the Coast Guard spokesperson, it's possible she went overboard.

Calls to the Miami-based office of Celebrity Cruises had not yet been returned.

The FBI said it has agents investigating the case.
