A bulk carrier crewmember was medically airlifted from his vessel after being crushed by an 1,100 pound piece of machinery, the Coast Guard reported.
The victim, 22, was medivaced by an MH-65 Dolphin Coast Guard helicopter from the Chinese-flagged M/V De Ming Hai on Sunday, Aug. 21, approximately 40 miles from Key West, Fl. The distress call was received at 11:30 a.m. by Air Station Miami which dispatched the rescue team. The victim was hoisted up at 3:41 p.m. and transported to a Miami trauma center.
Details on the cause of the accident were not made available.
