A boat crash that sent two men to the hospital in Pinellas County, Fl is being blamed on a cup of coffee.
Richard Bosman, 66, of Largo, was operating his 2011 Pursuit last week. While reaching to grab a cup of coffee, he got distracted and collided with a dock at 526 20th Ave. North, said police deputies. Bosman estimated the boat’s speed was 25 miles-per-hour on impact.
While being thrown out of the boat into the water, his hand knocked the throttle all the way forward. A friend who was in the boat, Samuel Roback, 66, of Largo, was thrown back into the vessel and it began to run wild. He frantically tried to hit the kill switch but couldn’t do so it time to prevent the craft from hitting another dock before it stopped.
Paramedics arrived to discover Bosman in waist deep water with a shoulder and knee injury. Roback was assisted out of the boat with injuries to his torso and lower leg. Both men were treated at an area hospital.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident and no tickets were issued, authorities said.
