Ohio boating deaths jump 78% this year

In 2009 there were nine boating fatalities in the state of Ohio.

So far in 2010, there are 16 boating-related deaths, an increase of 78%.

Though authorities do not attribute the increase to any specific cause, they say there have been a number of contributing factors including more swimmers because of warmer weather and alcohol use.

None of the 16 victims were wearing life jackets.
