A Norway cruise ship fire killed two persons and injured at least nine others Thursday. Four other persons were missing, police said.
The fire broke out on the MS Nordlys at 9:20 a.m. The 262 persons on board were evacuated before the vessel arrived in Alesund which is 230 miles northwest of Oslo. Over 100 passengers were evacuated by lifeboats. The remaining passengers and crew departed with smoke continuing to billow from the ship which is operated by Hurtigruten ASA.
Nine persons were taken to the hospital with serious burns and smoke injuries. Eight of them were crewmembers.
Police sealed off sections of the ship due to the heavy smoke.
