A man who lives just across a road from a Nocogdoches County power plant is concerned for his safety following Tuesday’s explosion that critically injured two workers.
"You worry about it, living that close, with everything they've got out there," Bobby Moorman told KYTX News.
An explosion at the Southern Company biomass plant in Sacul was reported to 911 at just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Sacul is 165 miles northeast of Houston. The workers were transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with severe electrical burns and are in critical condition.
"From what we're told about 440 volts arced, so that's a lot of electricity," said Nacogdoches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss.
The men are employed by Fagen, Inc., a contractor for Southern Company.
“I don't know how much an explosion would take out if they had anything like that, but you worry about stuff like that," Moorman said.
The plant was closed down immediately after the explosion. There were 744 persons at the facility at the time of the explosion.
Fagen is conducting an internal investigation into the cause of the accident.
On Nov. 25, 2011, the same plant was shut down after a bomb threat was found written inside a portable toilet.
