In a tragic Morgan’s Point accident occurring on Tuesday, December 6th, 2011, a local industrial worker was killed after being hit by a crane. The deceased man was working at the Barbour’s Cut Terminal on East Barbour’s Cut Boulevard at the time of the accident. The Terminal is located in the Houston Ship Channel.
During the accident, both of the victim’s legs were severed after he became caught underneath the crane and it began to move. He was taken to Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena for treatment. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
While the worker’s name has not been released, it has been confirmed that he was a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Union. Vice President of the Union, Joe Trevino, stated that the crane which caused the victim’s injuries was designed to move. Therefore, it is his opinion that the incident appears to be an accident.
Sadly, very little information about the details of the accident have been released thus far. Therefore, despite the statement released by the International Longshoremen’s Association Union Vice President, no official determination has been made regarding fault for the accident.
The Houston maritime attorneys at Vujasinovic & Beckcom, P.L.L.C. extend their deepest sympathies and condolences to the loved ones of the victim of this horrific accident.
