A Mississippi boating accident involving two vessels claims the life of a 4-year-old boy and leaves several others injured. The incident took place on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Rotten Bayou near the Jourdan River in Hancock County.
According to reports, two boats collided head-on, sending a 4-year-old boy to Hancock Medical Center where he was treated for critical injuries. Unfortunately, the young victim was pronounced dead later that evening.
The boy was one of three passengers on the 19-foot skiff, including the boy's father, Mark Richardson, and uncle, William Richardson. Both men sustained minor injuries as a result of the boat crash.
The force of the impact sent six passengers from the other boat, a 22-foot Boston Whaler, into the water. The boat's operator has been identified as George Brower. According to Lauren Thompson, from the marine department of Public Relations, all six passengers "sustained minor injuries."
"When the two boats collided, the six occupants of the Boston Whaler were ejected from the boat and sustained minor injures," Ms. Thompson said. "They got back in the boat and went back to the scene."
The fatal two-boat accident is still under investigation by local authorities. Both boats have been seized by Marine department officials.
