Several offshore workers died, and many were injured, when the Trinity II liftboat capsized and threw the men to sea during Tropical Storm Nate last September. The Australian company, Mermaid Marine, had a huge vessel standing by, but rather than attempt to rescue the men, the vessel simply turned around and went to shore. A recent news article on an Austrialian website contains what appears to be Mermaid Marine's position in this matter: the workers' injuries and deaths were caused "as a result of their own negligence or want of care." It will be interesting to see if Mermaid Marine discloses how it contends these offshore workers' injuries and deaths were their own fault.
