A Richmond boating accident leaves a man injured when a fishing boat struck a break wall near the Richmond Marina. The incident took place at approximately 5:45 AM on Tuesday morning, September 14, 2010.
According to Petty Officer 3rd Class Levi Read of the Coast Guard, a 25-foot fishing boat struck the rocks near the marina. There were four fishermen onboard at the time of the collision. One of the men was thrown into the water and was unresponsive.
The man was rescued by a nearby tugboat and given CPR. Rescue crews transported the fisherman to a nearby hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained in the maritime accident. His condition was not immediately made known.
The Coast Guard was able to successfully rescue the three other men. Fortunately, they were not injured in the boating wreck.
Read reported that the boat was taking on water when the Coast Guard arrived at the accident scene. The Coast Guard also had to clean up a one-by-one foot sheen on the surface of the water.
“We were riding out and hit a rock wall,” said fisherman Thomas Dakin. “It felt like a car accident.”
The Richmond boating accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
