Limb washes up in Ohio River determined to be from missing deckhand

Posted on Sep 01, 2011

A limb that washed up on the banks of the Ohio River has been identified as belonging to a deckhand who had been missing for over a year.

DNA tests positively identified the limb belonged to Christopher McAllister, 37, of Vevay, Indiana, said Boone County Coroner Douglas Stith. No other remains were found.. McAllister disappeared after the 40-foot towboat named Ceredo he was working on sank in the Ohio River between 100 to 200 feet from the Kentucky shoreline on Mar. 14, 2010. The limb washed ashore in Taylorsport, Ky, four months later. The towboat was owned by Aquarius Marine.

The cause of death is to be classified as accidental drowning, Stith said.
