Indian Shores Boating Accident Leaves Woman Injured

Posted on Jan 06, 2011

An Indian Shores boating accident leaves a Florida woman with serious injuries. The incident took place on Saturday, January 1, 2011, on the Intracoastal Waterway just south of the Park Boulevard boat ramp.

According to a sheriff’s report, a boat operator was required to shut off the vessel to repair the motor trim. The boat then coasted into some rocks just south of the boat ramp. As the boaters began to push off a woman’s hat blew off into the water.

While the boat was still at idle speed, the woman, who has been identified as Molly Rienerth, 27, of St. Petersburg, jumped into the water to retrieve her hat. The boat then hit her and pulled her under the vessel leaving her with serious lacerations to her left leg from the boat propeller.

One of the passengers, Morley Henry, 27, of St. Petersburg, jumped into the water to rescue Ms. Rienerth. She was taken back to the Park Boulevard boat ramp where someone from the boat called 911.

Rescue crews then transported Ms. Rienerth to Bayfront Medical Center where she was treated for serious injuries. Fortunately, her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

According to reports, the boat operator, Brian List, 36, of Seminole, was unaware that Ms. Rienerth jumped into the water to get her hat when the incident occurred.

The Indian Shores boating accident is still under investigation by local authorities.
