Halliburton Co., which was the cementing contractor for BP on the Deepwater Horizon well project, revealed that its tests conducted before the April 20 blowout indicated that the cement was unstable. The company issued a statement Thursday night saying it failed to implement a stability test upon the final cement mixture after BP altered the composition of the slurry used in the testing. The blowout caused the explosion that killed 11 workers and ignited the Gulf oil spill.
