In an incident unrelated to the Deepwater Horizon, a platform diver died late last week in the Gulf of Mexico. The diver, whose name was not yet released, was performing maintenance at a depth of 250 feet on the Normand Clipper operated by Veolia Environmental Services North America. Rescue teams recovered the body but paramedics were unable to resuscitate the victim. According to a company statement, an “underwater explosion” may have caused the fatality.
