Five tugs were being deployed to break a grounded ship free off Grosse Ile by Lake Erie. The 579-foot McKee Sons, an integrated tug and barge, got stuck in Trenton Channel outside of Detroit Christmas Eve morning carrying a load of coal. Officials said that if the tugs were unsuccessful in freeing up the ship, coal would be offloaded to lighter the barge. No injuries were reported. No oil sheen was observed in the water. A further inspection was to be conducted to determine if there was any damage to the barge
