Two men who escaped from a platform fire in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday were rescued by a vessel in the area.
The vessel HDS Stormridge hoisted the men from the life capsule that they used to flee the blaze on the GI 102A oil production platform located about 50 miles south of Grand Isle, La. The platform is owned by Arena.
Workers aboard the Grand Isle Block 115 platform notified the Eighth Coast Guard District of the fire. Helicopters and vessels were deployed from New Orleans, Houston, Mobile and Grand Isle.
The men were hoisted from the deck of the Stormridge by an MH65-C rescue helicopter which transported them for medical care. At last report they were taken to West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrerro, La and their condition was unknown.
The fire was reportedly extinguished and a fire watch posted by assets hired by Arena.
The Bureau of Oceans and Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement are investigating the condition of the platform and wells along with the cause of the fire.
