Feds target BP’s Houston office in Deepwater Horizon probe

Posted on Aug 28, 2010

Federal investigators are looking at what role BP’s Houston operations office played in the design errors potentially behind the Deepwater Horizon well blowout on April 20. Moreover, they are looking toward one man—supervisor John Guide—who workers are pointing toward as the major decision maker in the Macondo well’s design. Coast Guard Capt. Hung Nguyen, the lead investigator, said this week that two key BP technicians have named Guide as the person who approved the decision to use only six centralizers instead of the 21 recommended to stabilize the well’s piping. Halliburton reportedly sent BP a warning on April 18 that using fewer centralizers could cause a “SEVERE” gas flow.
