Federal government issues scathing report on BP, Halliburton and Transocean

Posted on Sep 15, 2011

A report on the joint Coast Guard-Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement 15 month investigation of the Deepwater Horizon disaster has been released.

The report’s findings paint an ugly picture of blame and safety violations among BP, Halliburton and Transocean.

Investigators concluded that the companies did not take precautions necessary to maintain control of the well.

BP and Transocean were cited with failing to perform major inspections of blow-out preventer components, a dereliction of duty that triggered the explosion and sinking of the platform.

11 workers died in the disaster on April 20, 2010.
