A team of four divers with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (DMR) was to resume their search for three missing crewmembers of the fishing boat Sandy Point which sank after a collision with a container ship in the Gulfport Shipping Channel.
A diver from the Biloxi Police Department joined the DMR team until their search was suspended at 4 p.m. Thursday because of dangerous water conditions at the wreck site around the west tip of West Ship Island, said a Coast Guard spokesperson.
DMR Chief Walter Chataginer said there was a possibility that the three persons are alive and have access to air although so far there were no signs of life found among wreckage and debris.
However, this morning searchers saw “some bubbling” rising from the sunken pogey boat, said USCG Capt. Don Rose.
The Omega Protein fishing boat collided with the 650-foot Euros London Wednesday at 8:50 p.m.
