A cruise ship slams into an Egyptian pier leaving three people dead. The incident took place early Friday morning at the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheik in Egypt.
According to reports, the Costa Europa operated by Costa Cruises slammed into a pier while docking. Costa Cruises has indicated that exceptionally bad weather conditions played a role in the fatal vessel accident. The cruise ship accident left three people dead.
The accident came during an 18-night voyage throughout the Middle East. The remaining passengers were flown home from Sharm el-Sheik following the incident.
The accident left the 24-year-old Costa Europa crippled and out for the rest of the cruising season. Costa Cruises had to cancel two remaining 18-night voyages scheduled for the Costa Europa that were to take place on March 4 and 22 between Savona, Italy and Dubai.
According to Costa Cruises, the Costa Europa was scheduled to leave the fleet following the March 22nd sailing. The ship has now been slated to be transferred to Thompson Cruises, a United Kingdom based company.
The fatal cruise ship accident aboard the Costa Europa is still under investigation by authorities.
