One news site reports that the 11 missing crew from the Deepwater Horizon oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico have been rescued from the water by the Coast Guard, citing confirmation by U.S. officials.
However, this story is contradicted by all major news services continuing to report that the workers are still missing and that the Coast Guard continues its air and sea search of the area. So far the Coast Guard has covered a 1,940 square mile area in 17 separate air and sea searches.
115 other workers were transported to shore via a workboat with 17 taken to hospitals with critical injuries.
The platform is located 52 miles southeast of Venice, Louisiana. It continues to burn after being rocked by an explosion at 10:00 p.m. Tuesday.
The rig is owned by Transocean Ltd. and operated by BP.
