Child killed in Mississippi boating accident

Posted on Apr 20, 2011

A six-year-old boy was killed and eight persons injured in a two boat collision earlier this month near Diamondhead, Miss.

An autopsy showed the boy, Blake Richardson, died from multiple injuries in the head-on collision.

Two other passengers on his boat sustained injuries: father Mark Richardson, who was operating the 19-foot Chritchfield skiff, and uncle William Richardson. Blake was the only one on the boat wearing a life jacket.

Six passengers on the other boat, a 22-foot Boston Whaler, were ejected from the impact and suffered minor injuries.

Blake was transported by airboat to Devil's Elbow then to Hancock Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m.

The accident occurred north of I-10 in Rotten Bayou near the Jourdon River in Hancock County.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources took possession of both boats and took a blood test on both operators.
