Tug boats scrambled to stabilize a ship that lost steering and ran aground in the Columbia River Thursday night, the Associated Press reported.
The Coast Guard said a power outage caused the loss of steerage and subsequent grounding of the 584-foot cargo vessel Luminous Ace near Cathalamet, Wash. off of Puget Island. The ship did not impede the channel.
No injuries or signs of pollution were reported.
Power and propulsion were restored and tugs were set to tow the ship at high tide Friday morning 20 miles west to an anchorage area near Astoria, Ore.
