BP Plc has denied Alabama’s $148 million claim for lost revenue as a result of the Gulf oil spill, State Attorney General Troy King said. The losses result from decreased lodging, sales and fuel tax revenues because of the negative impact upon this summer’s tourist season on the Gulf Coast. BP rejected the claim because of ongoing multi-district litigation that is being consolidated in a New Orleans federal court, the company said. King said that BP is just “playing games” by taking advantage of the facts that states are facing financial crisis and can’t allocate enough financial resources toward pursuing litigation. “They are doing a masterful job,” King said about BP’s tactics.
