BP exec stonewalls congress

Posted on Jun 17, 2010

BP CEO Tony Heyward denied having any knowledge of countless problems that plagued the Deepwater Horizon platform before it exploded April 20.

“We drill hundreds of wells a year around the world,” Heyward said without emotion before a congressional hearing Thursday.

He was grilled thoroughly by congressmen concerning what and when he knew about his company’s alleged reckless procedures in the weeks leading up to the disaster which killed 11 workers and began the worst environmental event in U.S. history.

Though Heyward claimed he was not stonewalling the committee, the congressmen became more and more irate, convinced that he was doing just that.

“You cut corners to save time and money,” Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan said. “BP blew it.”

Despite a myriad of incriminating company documents that were quoted from, Heyward steadfastly denied having the expertise or knowledge of the pre-explosion events.
