A BP engineer called the Deepwater Horizon oil platform a “nightmare well” in company documents released Monday by the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Brian Morel made the remarks in an April 14 email just six days before the rig exploded and killed 11 workers.
“We could be running it in 2-3 days, so need a relative quick response…this has been a nightmare well,” wrote Morel about ongoing delays and cost overruns to the drilling project.
The documents were released in advance of a subcommittee hearing on Thursday in which BP CEO Tony Heyward will face tough questions about the disaster.
Another company official wrote “who cares, it’s done, end of story, will probably be fine,” in an April 16 email.
The documents indicate that the company apparently decided to go against Halliburton’s recommendations to cement the well.
