Boone Lake Boat Crash May Have Been Caused by Lower Lake Levels

Posted on Nov 08, 2010

A Boone Lake boating accident that left a Tennessee man injured may have been the result of lower lake levels. The incident took place on Monday evening, November 1, 2010.

According to investigators, the unidentified Washington County, Tennessee man’s boat ran aground on a rocky area. The man’s bass boat hit the rock causing it to flip over. No details concerning the extent of his injuries were immediately made available, however, his injuries have been described as serious.

Investigators believe that the exposed rocky area may have been a result of the lower lake levels. The TVA drops the levels of area lakes each year after Labor Day for power production.

As the water recedes, the rocks and limbs underneath reappear,” said fisherman Kevin Blizard. “If you don’t know it was there it can come up and bight you real quick.”

Local boaters maintain that the lake levels this time of year change constantly.

The Boone Lake boating accident is still under investigation by local authorities. The TVA intends to continue to drop area lake levels throughout the winter.

Reports indicate that eight people lost their lives in Tennessee boating accidents in 2009 between the months of October and December.
