3 fishermen ejected after boat strikes sunken vessel

Posted on Nov 04, 2011

One man was injured after he and two other fishermen were ejected from their boat after it struck a sunken vessel in Florida.

The accident occurred late Wednesday evening when their 13-foot Boston Whaler hit a piece of the 150-foot “Liberty” that was partly sunken in Choctawhatchee Bay in the Panhandle near Fort Walton Beach.

They were able to call 911 for help because their phones were inside waterproof pouches around their neck.

The owner of a local seafood restaurant volunteered to use his boat to rescue the men, who were taken back to their boat which had hung up on a piece of steel from the Liberty.

The driver of the boat was taken to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.
