17-Year-Old Dies in Florida Tubing Accident

Posted on Oct 03, 2011

According to reports from Coral Springs police, a 17-year-old male, Randolph Bieszczak, died when the inner tube he was riding on crashed into the bank of a South Florida canal.

The teen tragically died at the scene from injuries sustained in the impact. Bieszczak was riding with his friends near the 11,000 block of Southwest First Street. Friends of the victim said that neither Bieszczak nor his friends were drinking when the accident happened. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are investigating the accident, and so far, the boat's operator has not been charged with any crime.

It's unclear at this point what the investigation will reveal about who is liable for the death. Unfortunately, accidents like these are notoriously difficult to understand. After fatal automobile accidents, forensic experts study the scene to piece together precisely what happened - or at least get some clues. But after a maritime accident, forensic experts have less evidence to work with. You can't leave "skid marks" on water, and the beach side of the canal where the fatal event occurred might have been subject to water erosion, which can quickly wash away evidence. This isn't to say that there are no tools to help with accident reconstruction - only that it can prove to be more challenging.

The key to responding effectively, compassionately, and proactively to any Florida maritime accident is to get resources as soon as possible after the accident. The longer you wait to connect with an attorney (like the team here at Vujasinovic & Beckcom - (877) 724-7800, www.maritimeaccidentattorney.com), the greater the chance that potentially useful evidence will be washed away, degraded, or destroyed.
