Maritime Attorney Brian Beckcom explains why you should NOT give a recorded statement to the insurance company after a maritime accident
If you have been injured in a maritime accident, the company will likely hire an insurance company or a so-called "independent" adjusting firm to investigate your claims.
One of the most common questions I get from new maritime injury clients is whether you should give a recorded statement to the insurance company or adjusting firm.
In general, I don't think it's a good idea to give a recorded statement to insurance company representatives. Why do I say this?
First of all, you need to understand that the insurance company is not "independent" even though they may tell you they are "independent." In reality, the insurance company is trying to protect its money and the company.
Second, the insurance adjusters are highly trained in taking statements that are detrimental to the rights of injured workers. In fact, you may give a statement to the adjuster and hurt your case without even recognizing it.
