Are You a Seaman Hurt in a Mississippi Maritime Accident? Protect Your Credentials with a Document of Continuity
If you are a seaman or a family member of a seaman who was recently hurt in a Mississippi maritime accident, you may not be able or willing to meet the requirements for renewal as a mariner. Fortunately, you may be able to obtain something called a Document of Continuity, according to 46 CFR 10.227(e). This document does not expire and allows the holder to obtain an active credential.
Simply complete the renewal requirements outlined in the CFR. You will not be charged for the Document of Continuity.
According to the official United States Coast Guard website, mariners must complete and go through the following process to obtain this document:
Complete CG-719B, the application
"Provide a signed statement attesting to an awareness of the limited purpose of the Document of Continuity, the inability to serve as a Merchant Mariner, and the requirements to obtain a merchant mariner credential"
Return your credential along with your CG719B application
Send your application and documents to a Regional Exam Center (REC)
Do you have questions or concerns about this process? In addition to a Document of Continuity, what else might an injured seaman want or need to preserve his or her rights and get fair compensation for an accident or injury offshore?
The experienced team at Vujasinovic & Beckcom can help you understand what to do (and what not to do), keep you informed and feeling in control throughout your process of healing and recovery, protect your rights, and help you obtain compensation so you may move forward with your life and career.
