Calculation of Jones Act Unearned Wages

Workers who qualify as Jones Act seaman are entitled to collect unearned wages if they injured during their employment.

In most cases, an injured seaman, unable to work, is entitled to be paid the total wages he or she would have otherwise earned until the end of the voyage. The length of time left on your maritime employment contract will determine how long you will get wages. If there is no written contract, then you should be entitled to unearned wages through the natural duration of your trip.

Only Jones Act seamen are entitled to unearned wages. Click here to find out if you qualify for the Jones Act.

What If The Accident Wasn't Anyone's Fault?

Your entitled to unearned wages exists even if your injury was caused by anyone's negligence or fault. All crewmen who fall injured or ill during a voyage are entitled to unearned wages.

You are also entitled to maintenance and cure. Read about maintenance and cure by clicking here.
