Our law firm files lawsuit against Geokinetics, Trinity Liftboats and Mermaid Marine Australia based on storm evacuation tragedy.

Our law firm has been hired by a surviving family member of Nadimuzzaman Khan, who sustained fatal injuries during the failed evacuation procedure which occurred during Tropical Storm Nate on September 8, 2011 in the Bay of Campeche. Our attorneys have filed a lawsuit on behalf of Mr. Khan's family in federal court in Galveston, Texas.

Mr. Khan was employed by Geokinetics, a seismic company based in Houston, Texas. Mr. Khan and the other nine members of his crew were aboard a liftboat operated by Trinity Liftboat Services when it became disabled by Tropical Storm Nate, forcing the offshore works to abandon the vessel. A standby vessel owned and operated by Mermaid Marine Australia was stationed near the liftboat for the specific purpose of providing protection to the workers in the event of adverse weather conditions.

Many problems with this attempted evacuation have already come to light. The life raft was not big enough. Other emergency safety equipment was not provided. The standby vessel operated by MMA did not attempt to rescue the workers.

Many more questions will be asked, and answered, through this litigation. Further, it is hoped that through the lawsuit process, a message can be sent to the maritime industry reinforcing the importance of marine safety.
