Beware of Attorney Advertising Related to the Transocean Rig Explosion

Maritime Attorney Brian Beckcom, who is currently representing clients in injury cases against Transocean, and has represented clients against Transocean is past cases, is urging victims of the Transocean rig disaster and their family members to be very careful when interviewing lawyers for the Transocean rig explosion case.

"I have seen lawyer websites pop in record time practically begging victims and their families to hire the law firm. Unfortunately, a lot of the advertising sees more than a little tacky and some of the attorneys advertising for these cases may have never represented a client against Transocean before."

To help victims weed through all the mass of attorney websites, Brian offers the following comments:

1. Offering A "Free Consulation" Is Meaningless

Almost every lawyer who represents injured people offers a free consultation.

2. Saying "Millions Recovered" Is Probably Meaningless Too

Some attorneys are bragging about how much money they have recovered for personal injury and wrongful death cases. Simply throwing out some large number like this tells you nothing at all about the types of cases, whether the result was good or bad, whether the client was satisfied, etc.

3. We Have "X" Number of Years of "Combined Experience" Doesn't Tell You A Lot

Some law firms say things like "We Have _____ Number of Years of Experience." Again, this won't tell you anything of substance, really. It doesn't tell you whether the lawyers have any experience in cases against companies like Transocean.

4. Saying Things Like "Have You Been Injured? Call Us" Is Meaningless

Attorney websites asking victims of the Transocean rig disaster to "Call Us" while the investigation is still ongoing doesn't give victims any solid, helpful information at all.

5. Be Careful of the Paid Attorney Advertising

When you do a Google Search related to the Transocean rig explosion, you will likely see a number of what are called "Sponsored Links" at the top of the page and along the right hand side. The only thing this tells you is that someone is willing to pay money to appear in Google Search Results. It tells you absolutely nothing about the law firm paying for the link.

So what should you be looking for?

You should be looking for helpful, useful, independent information that will help you make an information decision.
