Will I get fired if I hire an attorney for my Jones Act case?

A: Yes, you may get fired if you hire an attorney for your Jones Act case.  In the U.S., most employment is "at-will," which means your maritime employer can fire you for almost any reason (there are exceptions like firing people based on race, ethnicity, age, etc).

Some attorneys will tell you that you won't get fired.  This is simply not true.  If an attorney tells you that you may not get fired, he or she is not being straight with you in most situation.

However, a good Jones Act attorney will make sure to include your full compensation for any lost wages or loss of earning capacity if you are fired after a maritime injury.
