What law applies to my cruise ship injury claim if I was an employee of the cruise ship?

A: You will almost certainly be covered by a federal law called the Jones Act.  Click here to read more about the Jones Act.

However, some cruise ship companies are having their employees sign employment contracts that contain arbitration clauses.  Then, when the employee is hurt, the cruise ship company tries to enforce the arbitration clause.

An arbitration clause, if enforced, completely eliminates your legal rights to go to Court for you case.  Some arbitration agreements require that you have your case heard under the laws of another country, for example Panama, which is terrible for you but great for the cruise ship.
