What is the definition of an offshore major injury?

 

A: According to the National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority (NOPSA), a major injury is any work related injury resulting in:

-acute illness: from chemical/biological agents, loss of hearing, radiation sickness
-amputation: whole or partial of a body part (excluding “fleshy” tip of a finger or toe)
-burns: only if the victim is unconscious, requires resuscitation or is admitted to the hospital
-eye injuries: resulting in permanent or temporary loss of sight, penetrating injury or chemical burn
-hypothermia or heat related illness (causing unconsciousness)
-internal organ injuries: same criteria as with burns (above)
-any other injury causing unconsciousness, resuscitation or requiring hospital admission
