Vessel worker employed by shore based company awarded Jones Act rights

A concession worker on a vessel who worked for a land based company was ruled to be eligible for Jones Act protection under the law. The King County, Wa Superior Court ruled that Velma Hayes, who suffered injuries while working in the concession area aboard the Washington State Ferries vessel M/V Wenatchee, is covered under the Jones Act in the same way as any seaman employed directly by the State of Washington. The company frequently contracts shore companies to handle concessions.
