A ship captain who fell twice in succession has filed a Jones Act lawsuit against the company.
The suit states that plaintiff Joseph Deon Jr.
"suffered severe and disabling personal injuries due to the negligence of the defendant and/or the unseaworthiness of the vessel."
The plaintiff and his crew were reportedly lowering equipment by line (rope) aboard the
M/V Dorado on or around Nov. 29, 2010, when the line broke and fell on top of him, the complaint states. This forced him to fall backwards down the stairs and onto equipment in the engine room below.
Deon said he went back to work but then fell down on the slippery deck.
He seeks compensation from Global International Marine Inc., the defendant, for breaching its duty to provide a seaworthy vessel, loss of earnings, mental anguish, impairment, disfigurement, pain and suffering and medical expenses.
The case was filed June 30 in the Southern District of Texas court in Galveston.
