Uptick in Jones Act cases from Mississippi and Alabama

Recently there has been an increase in maritime cases filed in Alabama and Mississippi. Though Texas and Louisiana have a large percentage of the Gulf Coast's case filings, the maritime industry is one of the biggest employers in Mississippi. From Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula to oil platforms off of Gulfport to push boats in Vicksburg, thousands make their living in the waters in and around the state. Alabama has a sizeable maritime workforce of its own, with Steiner Shipyard in Bayou La Batre, Parker Towing in Northport and fishing fleets in Gulf Shores.
