Transocean sued by seaman hit in head by scaffolding

A seaman is suing Transocean for not securing a piece of scaffolding that fell and struck him in the head.

The alleged incident occurred January 6 on the M/V Discovered Deep Seas.

Transocean and Safeway Services are the defendants. They stand accused of failure to provide a safe work place and safe work method, co-workers’ negligence to properly install, maintain and remove scaffolding, and failing to properly train employees.

Randy Mangipano, plaintiff, initially filed the case against Transocean and Safeway Services in Jefferson Parish (La) District Court on March 30. On April 29, the defendant removed the case to New Orleans federal court.

Magipano seeks damages for mental and physical pain and suffering, maintenance and cure, loss of wages, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of earning capacity, punitive damages, attorney’s fees, penalties and expenses.
