The international trade association InterManager has condemned the practice of detaining seafarers in criminal cases they may have nothing to do with.
"Why should a seafarer be treated differently and penalised for acts that have nothing to do with criminal negligence?" asked InterManager Secretary General Elect Kuba Szymanski at an IMO meeting in London on March 26.
InterManager went on to protest the customary practice of detaining mariners without a trial in cases that do not involve criminal negligence.
