Tow captain rescued after vessel capsizes

The captain of a tow boat who was missing was rescued one mile east of St. Augustine, Florida earlier this week.

Norm Mann went in the water after the tow line to the 48-foot sail boat his 24-foot vessel was towing snapped, causing his boat to capsize.

Deployed were a Mayport, Florida Coast Guard rescue boat, Savannah, Georgia Air Station rescue helicopter and local and county teams. The search began 6:30 a.m. Monday. Mann, of Palm Coast, Florida, was recovered by a St. John’s fire and rescue team two hours later. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
