Tankerman files suit after falling into the bilge

A tankerman has filed a lawsuit against his employer after suffering serious injuries from a fall into the bilge.

The employer, Enterprise Marine, has been charged with failure to take adequate safety measures to prevent accidents and a lack of equipment to protect workers from falling into the bilge. Enterprise is also accused of failing to provide: proper supervision, proper crew and a safe working environment.

The unnamed tankerman said that while working aboard the M/V Marie Cenac, he entered a confined area while being assigned to a paint job on the bilge. After a sudden unforeseen movement by the vessel, he lost his balance and fell in.
